Vision

Bringing people & community together.

Mission

The Avon River Days Society aims to foster community within the West Hants region by organizing the annual Avon River Days festival. We provide a platform for diverse community engagement, celebration, and shared experiences.

Avon River Days Society envisions a vibrant and inclusive gathering where people come together to celebrate our region’s greatness, forge lasting connections and create memories.

Guiding Principles of the Society

  1. Avon River Days Society acknowledges the land that we are situated on as the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. As treaty people we have a responsibility to act relationally and in a spirit of peace and friendship. The Avon River Days Society will create space within the festival to welcome indigenous knowledge keepers. In the spirit of peace and friendship we recognize the significance of being in Pesaquid, this place traditionally called “the junction of tidal waters.”

  2. The Festival will highlight the region of West Hants, through events hosted by the Society and through the promotion of events hosted by other organizations and businesses in West Hants Regional Municipality.

  3. We pledge that Kids Carnival activities hosted by the Society remain cost-free for all attendees. Furthermore, we are committed to fostering inclusivity by including activities that are accessible to individuals of all abilities.

  4. We foster collaborative relationships with groups, businesses, and societies in West Hants who share our vision of creating inclusive spaces that bring people and communities together.

  5. The Society follows the mission and vision within the meeting process and decision making. Therefore, decisions and commitments to components of the festival are considered with a shared decision making process within executive or planning committee meetings.

  6. The Avon River Days Society upholds a strictly nonpartisan stance, abstaining from involvement in political, socially divisive, or religious matters as an organization. Furthermore, it is important to note that individual members’ opinions do not represent the views of the organization as a whole.
